Brown Class of 13.5: We Want to Publish Your Graduation Speeches!

Congratulations to the Brown University’s Class of 13.5 for graduating yesterday!

Student speakers for the mid-semester commencement celebration are chosen by faculty members after an application process, where individual students submit a speech proposal.  Bluestockings would like to take some time to celebrate the myriad experiences of Brown Class of 13.5.  In particular, we would like to feature voices that are not always given a turn in campus dialogue, including those that were not shared at commencement.  We also recognize that there are many students that the system does not expect to get accepted to and graduate from Brown.  We would especially like to give these voices access to our platform.

If you are a member of the Brown Class of 13.5 who would like to publish a graduation speech or statement of reflection, please submit to

If you are a Brown student or alum, you can also nominate someone in the Brown Class of 13.5 that you would like to hear from.  Email your nomination.  We will contact your nominee and ask if they would like to publish a graduation speech or some sort of statement of reflection on our website.  They are also welcome to decline.

Thank you for reading.  And once again, congratulations to the Brown Class of 13.5.  We will miss you!

With love,

Kristy Choi ’15, Amy LaCount ‘13.5, David Sanchez-Aguilera ‘13.5, Ann Kremen ’14, Nicole Hasslinger ’15, Ragna Rök Jóns ’15, and the Fall 2013 Bluestockings Editorial Board
