This piece was created by collaging body parts from a figure drawing session along with other appropriated materials. While I didn’t have a specific agenda in mind while constructing the piece, in retrospect, the act of assembling the image of a woman from parts that were not her own or of her own volition is strikingly similar to what women actually experience in quiet, dangerous ways. The irony of this comparison, however, is that what I personally read from this woman’s stance and form is nothing but power. She is my own female ganesha – I fashioned her out of charcoal and glue to protect me as she sits against my dormitory wall, arm akimbo, defiant.
