The Stonewall Riots were started by queer and trans women of color: Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson. #BlackLivesMatter was coined by three Black women, two of whom are queer.
At the present moment, the numbers of trans deaths (especially trans women of color) are rising while this violence is systematically and repeatedly denied by the mainstream media and the state. We recognize that resistances by those at the intersections of queer and trans communities and communities of color have not only existed, but endured, throughout time. Centering these resistances is integral to our anti-oppressive work.
These narratives—the ones most in danger of erasure—are the ones bluestockings has a responsibility to remember and honor. Because of this, our sixth print issue will be dedicated to amplifying the stories, voices, and perspectives of people in queer and trans communities of color. Only work from QTPOC writers and artists will be accepted. Please submit to https://bluestockingsmagazine.submittable.com/submit with the subject line “QTPOC Zine: [Title]”. Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, April 5th.
